Sunday night, the WWE rolled in to New York City to host their annual pay per view event, Survivor Series. The atmosphere was incredible as The Rock was set to team up with his Wrestlemania opponent, John Cena, to take on The Miz and R-Truth. Television did this show no justice. If you were one of the 16,000 in attendance, you heard some of the best chants and crowd reactions that only the best wrestling city in the world can give.
The big story here is The Rock’s wrestling return. The Rock hasn’t wrestled since Wrestlemania XX in 2004, which was also at Madison Square Garden. At that time, The Rock teamed with Mick Foley to take on Ric Flair, Batista and Randy Orton. This year, The Rock shocked the millions worldwide as they chanted “You still got it!” The Rock and Cena won their match and it ended with John Cena receiving an electrifying “Rock Bottom.” After the show went off the air, The Rock gave a very non-PG speech to the fans in attendance. That can be viewed here.
The big story was The Rock, but the bigger story is the hometown boy from Long Island, New York: Zack Ryder. Ryder was known as an undercard jobber the past few years until he started a weekly web show that gained attention. Since than, Ryder has been in the spotlight and his merchandise is flying off the shelves. Having a packed Madison Square Garden chant your name through out a whole event is something special, especially when The Rock is in the building.
The next time WWE returns to New York will be December 17th at Nassau Coliseum for their annual holiday tour. John Cena, CM Punk and Mark Henry are all advertised for that event.
