CC Sabathia has decided to stay off of Craigslist, not send his resume to Monster, and stay with the New York Yankees. Monday night, CC agreed to a contract that adds $30 million and an extra year to his original contract. His new contract pays $122 million over the next five years.
Who wouldn’t want to re-sign with a team that offers such a lucrative deal? Although, the big left hander explains that there were other factors involved in making his decision, other than the extra zero’s now appearing on his checks.
“My son loves it here. All my kids love it here. My wife loves it here, obviously, and I do, too. I love pitching for the Yankee fans and everything, so it was the easy choice.”
So it has nothing to do with the money?
“It was just more time. That’s all it was. It was never a question about money or anything like that.”
CC is a family man. I believe it…for the most part. There is no doubt that the money crossed his mind here and there. It crosses everybody’s mind, but it was a big decision. It is only understandable why he took the amount of time he took to make up his mind.
“I just want to end my career here. I want to make sure I end my career as a Yankee and, hopefully, I’ve done that.”
Who can complain with that? CC Sabathia a life-long Yankee? Sounds good to me.
At the end of the day, no one is worth that type of money. But with the passion that CC brings to the mound and his 59-23 record with the Bronx Bombers, the New York Yankees have no problem shelling out that type of cabbage.
“The energy, what you get coming out the bullpen, the fans. Everything it is it is to be pitching in New York, in the Bronx. It’s just so much fun. To be part of this organization is just a dream for me.”
Keep throwing that curveball and help the Yankees win a couple of more rings and it won’t be just your dreams realized. Show us all you are worth every penny and that last year’s postseason appearances were just a bunch of flukes. Continue to have fun and make it just as fun for us to watch you every five days.
